Kentucky AARP Tax-Aide Training Begins for the 2008 Tax Season

District Coordinators and Instructors are organizing their training classes in eleven districts across Kentucky.  This is AARP Tax-Aide’s 40th anniversary tax season.  There are over 88 sites in Kentucky where volunteers serve clients directly making this program the success it is, year after year.

Training classes teach volunteers how to prepare tax forms and/or answer questions to the extent of his/her tax training, at assigned tax assistance sites.  Each volunteer must pass the IRS exam and sign the IRS Standards of Conduct form to become a certified counselor.

Counselors volunteer at least an average of four hours a week during tax season, usually from 2/1 to 4/15, plus 3-5 days of training in January.  Counselors acquire tax knowledge by self-study and attending training classes.

Last year, in Kentucky we helped over 22,000 taxpayers.  This year we expect a record year for our 40th anniversary tax season due to the fact that we have opened new sites and have a large number of new volunteers.

We want to thank the District Coordinators and Instructors for their hard work and long hours in organizing and planning classes to prepare volunteers in making this the success it is and to thank each volunteer for the time spent in acquiring tax knowledge to serve the taxpayers in Kentucky.

Enjoy the satisfaction of your good work, and have fun while you’re doing it.

Happy New Year from the

Kentucky Tax-Aide State Management Team

"Staying Ahead of the Game” goal of this years Instructor’s Workshop

The State Management Team, District Coordinators, and Instructors met this month at Blue Licks and Rough River State Parks for the Instructor’s Workshops.  Neva Correll, State Training Specialist, organized and planned another successful workshop.  In Neva’s opening statement she stated our goal of “Staying Ahead of the Game” by continuing to be ahead of the national average with accuracy, quality reviews, and electronic filing of taxpayers returns.

To reach this goal the objectives of the workshop were to provide information about the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide policies, update instructors on Federal and State Tax Law, provide tools to aid instructors in planning and conducting local training, review administrative procedures, and give information on changes in electronic filing.

The knowledgeable speakers covered all the objectives providing everyone the information needed to prepare and conduct their training classes.  We want to thank all the speakers who took part in the workshops.
